Fun Winter Crafts That Get You in Nature
Humans are a social species that benefit from time spent in the great outdoors. However, finding that one-on-one time with the trees and trails can become challenging when we enter the winter months. But it’s important to know that it’s not impossible to benefit from nature even in the cold. That’s why you should know about these fun, incentive-producing crafts that require you to get out in nature.
Icy Ornamentals
Creating icy ornamentals is a craft that the whole family will love. This enriching task requires that you head outside and find a good mix of twigs, leaves, berries, and anything else that you want to add to your ornament. To create your ornament, you will need a dish that you will fill with water. Then, you and the kids can add your nature finds to the dish in any design or pattern you wish. Don’t forget to fashion a loop of twine and place it in the dish prior to freezing so that you can hang it outside.
Pinecone Fire Starters
If you plan to stay outside for a while, you might need to keep warm with a toasty fire. While starting the fire is likely your job, you can have the kids join in on the fun by searching for pinecones. Pinecones make fantastic fire starters, and they store well for future bonfires. To make your pinecone fire starters, you will need a wick to wrap around and candlewax to dip them into; it’s easier than you’d think to make them.
Twig Snowflakes
Perhaps you don’t want to spend too much time outside but still want a simple and fun winter craft that gets you in nature for a little bit. In that case, choose twig snowflakes. All you need to do is head out to your backyard to find an assortment of twigs.
This craft is an enriching activity for you and the kids, as they can hunt for the perfect size and shape of twigs. Once you have a good amount, you can return to the warmth of your humble abode. Grab a hot glue gun and begin making your snowflakes in any design you want.
