A Michigan-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping women, children, and families called the Glamorous Moms Foundation is a volunteer-only organization I started just a couple of years ago with the mission to provide support, inspire, and build confidence in women and children in our community.
Each month, the Glamorous Moms Foundation gifts “New Mom Baskets” to local clinics, hospitals, pregnancy centers, shelters, families, and expectant moms. Each basket consists of a variety of necessities such as slippers, robes, postpartum tea, fuzzy socks for mom, bibs, newborn mittens, newborn socks, nipple cream, travel wipes, travel hygiene products, travel diapers, breast pads, hemorrhoid pads, swaddle blankets, diapers, wipes, and a reusable basket/storage bin for storage.
The value of each New Mom Basket ranges from $100 -$150 (depending on monthly donations received) and the baskets are carefully assembled and gifted to provide good health, safety, and comfort for both new mom and infant to help bring joy and hope to a mother’s life in support of her new journey with her new bundle of joy.
Many have asked if this is a “pro-choice” mission. The answer is, “no”. This is a mission to support underprivileged moms who may not have the means to purchase the comforting products they need to take care of their bodies or their infant’s needs. The basket is meant to gift expectant moms the items necessary to make her and baby feel more comfortable. Baby supplies and adult hygiene supplies can add up financially and many women today skip purchasing items for themselves to make ends meet. The Glamorous Moms Foundation wants to help make the transition exciting and we want to help lighten the worry, at least just for a day, for moms in vulnerable situations.
For me and many of my friends, expecting a child was exciting and wonderful news. But, we must not forget the moms out there that are in poverty, domestic violence situations, and those who may be worried about their transition into motherhood. It’s not exciting news for everyone. We understand that. That’s why our baskets of hope are important. Other than gifting necessities to moms and babies in need, we also want to gift them hope, joy, and support to let them know they are not alone.
