Valentine’s Day is for Celebrating the Sweetest Ones in Our Lives
It doesn’t matter if you’ve just started dating someone, have been married for 30 years or are celebrating Galentine’s Day this year – but Valentine’s Day is the holiday we all take time to show the people we love the most what they mean to us. Sure, it may actually be a day that you focus on yourself, but there is no escaping the hearts and pink flowery arrangements surrounding you. We love taking time to show everyone we love just how much they mean to us, by making their favorite dishes, finding sweet gifts they will love and know just how much they mean to us.
Sweet Treats and Gift Ideas for Your Sweetheart
In our house, we love to give experiences instead of actual gifts. It helps cut down on the “things” that tend to clutter up our house, but it also creates memories for years to come. But when it comes to Valentine’s Day we change it up a little bit. Usually, we stick to the no gift rule and keep things to the minimum but we do try to come up with gift ideas that the other will love, that also doesn’t break the bank. There are so many different things you can do that won’t hurt your budget and will still bring a smile to their face. Some ideas include:
- Gift Certificate to our favorite Restaurant
- A Spa Day – we love going to the float spa together!
- Chocolates or Truffles
- Dessert from our favorite restaurant – brought home!
- Popcorn Buckets with Different Flavors
- Dried Fruit and Sweets
- A fruit basket

Finding a Valentine card for the kids in your life may be harder, but what we absolutely love are the LEGO Valentine’s kits for kids. They are affordable and make a great project to build together. They have a bee, flowers, a dog, teddy bears and even a romantic picnic set. They’re great for kids, but trust me there are enough adults that love them too!
Building with LEGO bricks, not their thing? Why not print out their own Valentine’s cards to hand out at school? You can get a variety that is absolutely free and you can print at home including:
- Lady and the Tramp
- DreamWorks Trolls
- Ferdinand the Bull
- Rock Dog
- DreamWorks Home
- How to Train Your Dragon
Recipes They’re Going to Love
Planning on cooking at home instead of going out? I will admit, we’re more than happy to stay in during the week leading up to and the weekend after Valentine’s Day. The restaurants are flooded and while we feel the love surrounding us, we would rather the quiet of our own home sometimes. So, I tie on the apron and get cooking – and usually it’s his favorite meal. In our home, our traditional Valentine’s Day meal is a five cheese stuffed pasta, a goat cheese salad and maybe some vanilla ice cream with strawberries as a dessert. But there are so many other great options out there.
