This has been one heck of a long and very cold winter, which means we have spent a lot of time indoors. To ward off boredom, we have been snuggling up under our fleece blankets and watching movies. We have seen some really good ones; Back to the Future, Ghost Busters, and The Incredible Mr. Limpet. You have to have snacks with movies – that’s just the way it is. Popcorn is our trusty standby. But just like the beautiful snow that comes day after day, plain popcorn gets boring after a while.
Last week, while we were searching for a birthday present at Walmart I picked up some of the new 3 Musketeers Bites. I thought they would make a great snack.
When we got home, we opened one of the bags to give them a try – they were delicious and such a perfect little size.
I got to thinking that it might would be fun to dress up our popcorn with the 3 Musketeer Bites, so I messed around a bit in the kitchen and after a few tries came up with the following recipe. I made two batches – one with 3 Musketeers Bites and the other using the Milky Way Simply Caramel Bites. It was yummy both ways. It’s really easy to put together and quick too!
Chocolate Popcorn Crunch
Ingredients:
1/2 stick of butter
2 cups of small marshmallows
4-5 cups of popped popcorn with any un-popped kernels removed (one microwave bag will work)
1 cup of 3 Musketeers Bites cut in half.
Instructions:
Pop the popcorn and set aside. Make sure you remove any un-popped kernels. Your teeth will thank you later.
- In a large saucepan, slowly melt the butter.
Once butter is completely melted, add the marshmallows and continually stir until completely melted.
Stir the mixture over medium heat until the mixture is smooth
Add the popcorn and gently stir into the melted marshmallow mixture.
Add the chopped 3 Musketeers Bites or Milky Way Simply Caramel Bites – I waited a minute for the mixture to cool slightly so the chocolate didn’t melt all over the popcorn. Fold them into the popcorn mixture without stirring too much.
Pour out onto wax paper, and allow to air dry.
Once it dries you can start munching or store in an airtight container for a few days.
