Do you love fantastic food, signature cocktails, bidding on amazing silent auction prizes and dancing the night away…..AND doing it all knowing you are helping a great local cause??? Then we have the perfect night for you! Charlotte’s Wings is hosting their 4th Annual Benefit at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester on May 6th – and it promises to be all of the above and much more!
Charlotte’s Wings is a non-profit organization based in Rochester, Michigan. They were founded in memory of a Rochester infant, Charlotte Tarling, who died in December 2007 at just 5 months old of a rare degenerative brain disease. In lieu of baptism gifts, her parents, Joanne and Marc, made a large donation of books to the pediatric unit at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan. Inspired by this, in March 2008, Jennifer Buck, a friend of the Tarlings, founded Charlotte’s Wings to continue and expand this initiative – donating books to children in hospital and hospice care across the state of Michigan.
As Buck says, “From a single book and an idea 3 years ago, Charlotte’s Wings has grown beyond our wildest dreams. To date, we have donated over 9000 books to hospitals and hospices throughout the state. We are so proud that we have been able to provide hope and smiles to so many local children and their families as they face traumatic times.”
Last year’s benefit was a huge success and enabled Charlotte’s Wings to not only continue their original mission donating to pediatric hospices and libraries, but also reach out into some new areas for them. Buck and Tarling are especially proud of the three pediatric reference libraries they have recently created across the state for both patients and their parents to use to help guide and inform them in the face of their diagnosis.
And it looks like this year’s benefit is gearing up to be another huge success for Charlotte’s Wings. In addition to the delicious dinner and exciting silent auction prizes, local television and radio personalities, husband and wife Jamie Samuelsen and Christy McDonald, will be there to act as Master and Mistress of ceremonies. There will also be a DJ later in the evening so take along your dancing shoes! And last but certainly not least, fans await the debut of the Charlotte’s Wings ‘Bookatini’ – the signature cocktail created by the Royal Park Hotel for Charlotte’s Wings – to be launched at this year’s event.
Last year’s benefit sold out well before the event, so if you feel like a Charlotte’s Wings Bookatini may be in your near future, get your tickets soon! The event is on May 6th from 6-11pm and tickets are $75 for a double and $40 for a single ticket. To get tickets email Jennifer Buck at charlotteswings@wowway.com.
