I received this tiny little bottle of fabric softener from Purex to try out with my laundry. I honestly figured it would be the same old-same-old but I have to admit it was far from it.
On Saturday, I decided to give it a test. I started the water for my load, mixed in my liquid All Free and Clear and then added the Purex Complete Crystals Softener to the load. The little bottle was premarked for loads so I mixed in what I thought was such a tiny amount of the Fresh Spring Waters scent and I honestly wanted to stand there just to smell it. I was really hoping my laundry was going to come out smelling that great. It wasn’t as muted as the smell you get from the liquid fabric softeners or the dryer sheets.
After the load washed, I moved it to the dryer. I could still smell the awesomeness. I moved the load to the dryer and started another load in the wash. Mmmmm. That smell is so good! I can’t believe I’d write that about fabric softener ever. Mostly because I barely remember to use it. I repeated this cycle about four times until the bottle ran out. Darn it all.
The clothes coming out of the washer smelled great and the clothes coming out of the dryer did as well. I figured there was no way this scent would last. It would be exposed to the air and my kid-filled, dog-infested home and become that boring smell I take in every day.
When the final load was dry, I put in one of my regular dryer sheet with the first load post-Purex Complete Crystals.
(Yes, I had about seven loads of laundry to do in one day. And a Saturday too! I work so I need to learn to keep up on it during the week so I don’t waste my weekends!)
After all of the loads were done and upstairs lined up next to my couch, I began to fold. I turned on some DVR’d episodes of “Brothers and Sisters” and went to town. Immediately I could tell what loads had the Purex Complete Crystals and which did not. Even hours later, they still had that amazing smell! I washed our sheets with it and when I put the sheets back on the bed, I felt like I was in one of those cheesy Fabreeze commericals, I had to sniff my sheets. Amazing.
In true procrastination mode, I didn’t have time to put the laundry away until Monday after work. More than 36 hours after I had washed it and folded it. (Really? Am I the only one who does this? Didn’t think so. Moving on.) I picked the laundry basket up off the floor and caught a whiff of my new favorite scent. STILL THERE!
Today, nearly four days after I washed the clothes, I opened my drawer to get out a t-shirt and there it was again…THE SCENT (think of that word being said by the little aliens from Toy Story).
That is when I decided I had to write about it.
I pulled up some facts about Purex Complete Crystals. As a mom, the thing I found most awesome (besides the long-lasting scent) was the fact that it is the first major fabric softener that is 100 percent safe to use on children’s sleepwear as it doesn’t impair flame retardant qualities. Hmm. I never knew…..oh well.
Purex Complete Crystals are not oil-based, like most of the other fabric softeners out there. Because it’s embedding itself in the fabric rather than just covering it, the scent lasts longer. The oils in regular softeners can also decrease the absorbency of fabrics, in particular towels. The Purex Complete Crystals don’t have the oily residue that can prevent your body and your dishes from getting completely dry with a towel. Same goes for sportswear. The oily residue of the regular softeners can reduce the effectiveness of the fabric’s wicking ability. The Purex Complete Crystals are safe for all of those garments as well.
Not convinced yet? Well, you really need to run out and try a bottle. Fabric softener usually doesn’t rank high on my list of name-brands-I-must-buy, but now it’s right behind number-one paper towel (Viva) and toilet paper (Cottenelle), which is second. We’ll be using the Purex Complete Crystals! It comes in three scents. I’m looking forward to trying them all.
And now the fine print: I am a Purex Insider. With this, I received a sample of the Purex Complete Crystals to try out for this review. The thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.
