I seriously don’t have all the answers of how to be a totally “with it” full time working mom, but I will share with you what I know.
The other day I was on the phone with the CEO of the company I work for and while talking business, laughing inside because if he only knew, I said, “I’m sorry, but I have to tell you that while we are talking on the phone I’m under the dining room table cleaning up markers.” He started laughing and said, “Courtney, you have to write about what it’s like to be a full time work at home mom because I’m sure there are others out there that could relate.”
I work for a company called Collective Bias which is a social shopper marketing company. I work full time as a salaried employee as their Community Project Manager. I basically help manage the projects on the community side. We have a community of about 800 bloggers that get to participate in campaigns with companies like Hershey’s, Colgate, Truvia, Marie Calender’s and so many more. I get to travel and go to blogging conferences to meet with brands and bloggers. It is my dream job and the fact I do get to work from home couldn’t be a better deal. I have two children in school and one still at home, so I get the best of both worlds…I get to be a stay at home mom and work full time contributing to the household income. It’s awesome!
Now you might wonder how I get to travel so much, so I’d like to clarify… I don’t have a babysitter to help, but I do have a mother in law and a husband with a job that is slightly flexible, so it always works out and my children are getting to spend time with a member of the family at all times. It’s really a lucky situation to be in. I do feel blessed.
How I do it all is even a mystery to me sometimes. I do know that I’m a pretty determined person and I work very hard. I wake up at 5 a.m. every day and run with my husband. Then, I come home, drink some coffee and jump in the shower. I wake my oldest daughter up, get her dressed and fed and work on her lunch and snack. At this time I also run around and pick up a bit, make beds and throw a load of laundry in to be washed. I am a multi-tasking maven! Even during conference calls, which I usually have multiple in a day, I am grabbing a snack, filling cups, cleaning up spills, folding laundry, putting away dishes and picking up toys. The craziest thing is that between all this, I am also doing a yoga alliance certification online as I love learning new skills and yoga has always been something I wanted to learn more about. The only way to survive as a full-time mom and a full time working mom from home is to multi-task. Otherwise, my house would be a freakin’ mess or I’d be spending my salary on daycare… neither for which I would want to do.
Oh and I forgot… I run Detroit Mommies, but only with the help of my amazing writers could I keep this website going with all that I do. Like next week… I’m gone Monday-Sunday traveling with one day home, so today (Sunday) is my day to write for the week, hang out with my family and pack.
If you are a mom that works full time, how do YOU do it?
