Oakland Country brings back Great Marshmallow Drop

Oakland County Parks hosts The Original Great Marshmallow Drop, Friday, April 2 at 10 a.m. at Catalpa Oaks County Park. The annual event began in 1978 and is making its return.

Parents and children are invited to watch more than 15,000 marshmallows drop from a helicopter.

After the drop, children ages 3 and older can collect the marshmallows and turn them in for a prize-filled egg. Only one marshmallow is needed to receive a prize; this is not a competition.

“It’s our kick-off to summer and a unique alternative to an egg hunt,” Vic Chiasson, project adviser, said.

Chiasson initiated the first Oakland County Parks Marshmallow Drop in 1978 in the Oakland County courthouse parking lot. After 30 years, the parks system is bringing back this unique event. The Marshmallow Drop is free of charge.

Catalpa Oaks in located at 27725 Greenfield Road in Southfield.
