I played the violin all through elementary school.
I could “play by ear” as they say, listening to music with the violin present picking up each note and then reconstructing the sound with my own instrument. I had a gift and let my gift go like ashes in the wind because I was too worried about what people would think…I liked being “cool”.
Well, being “cool” doesn’t get you very far in life, so I regret the day I shut the case of my violin and let dust settle on the black leather. I still have that violin with it’s completely out of tune strings and brittle bow from years of extreme weather.
I adore the violin and wish that I had never succumbed to clicks and the desire to be someone I was not.
I was given the opportunity to review the most amazing CD I have heard in years and there is no exaggerating when I say that. I am a sucker for strings, so if you aren’t a fan, then you may or may not enjoy this CD, but I’d be surprised!
Joshua Bell takes us on a journey with his new CD At Home With Friends. From Sting to Chris Botti to Josh Grobin to salsa flair to the the chipper, sweet voice of Kristin Chenoweth, there is variety and warmth to this CD unlike any other I have heard.
A friend of mine, Erica, also did a review of the same CD and played it during a dinner party she had, enjoying it with friends, food and conversation…she enjoyed it. She also said that her husband mentioned feeling under dressed, like they were at a fancy restaurant. Joshua’s CD transforms your surroundings.
I on the other hand have listened to At Home With Friends by myself every time and every time I listen I am put into a relaxed state of mind and have actually gotten some very creative and free flowing writing done. It makes me feel cozy and transforms the atmosphere of every environment.
At Home With Friends by Joshua Bell would make an excellent gift this Holiday season! I know we’ll have it playing while the fire is crackling in the fireplace, the glasses are filled with a nice red and conversation is flowing, at home with friends.
