Pets Can Have Fun Too!
We understand that not everyone has the time to walk their dog every day and can often struggle to get their dog enough exercise. This is why so many people get services like Hnh dog walking so they know their dog is getting enough exercise and is having a fun time while doing so. There are also apps like Rover.com available. But where are good places to walk your dog if you do have time?
Are you a first-time dog owner living in Detroit, or a veteran dog owner new to the city, and you want to take your pooch around the area? Unfortunately, you’re still not allowed to bring your pup to restaurant patios (some places do let you, but it’s technically illegal.) However, there are plenty of other spaces available for you and your dog to bond while staying active. Here’s information on the most dog-friendly spots in the metro area.
Even though Canine To Five is a daycare and grooming facility, they also host dog events throughout the year. One day a month in the winter and every week in the summer, they schedule a Winter/Summer Pack Walk along the Detroit Riverfront, which has a conservatory with lush landscaping, a fountain, and butterfly gardens. The company also occasionally has puppy playdates and “Drinking With Dogs” events at both their Midtown and Ferndale locations.
There are a lot of other great walking trails besides just the Riverfront.
Palmer Park is home to 296 acres of lawns and woodlands. In fact, it’s the largest Virgin Forest in the tri-city area and one of only seven in Detroit. Rouge Park boasts 15 acres of restored native prairies, paved pathways, and the Stone Bridge Nature Trail, which is perfect for hiking.
There are also a myriad of dog parks in Michigan. Grand Circus Dog Park is located in the eastern part of Grand Circus Park. The park connects the Theater District with the Financial District and was registered as a Historic Place in 1983. Detroit Dog Park is located west of Michigan Central Station in the historic Corktown neighborhood and opened just this last May.
Other dog parks to check out are Midtown Dog Park, Balduck Park, and Midtown Shinola Clock Dog Park. The summer heat can be a lot for both you and your pooch, so why not head to Wally’s Frozen Custard, just 13 miles northeast of downtown Detroit? While you devour their popular banana split, your dog can work on the doggie cones they serve. For a journey a little closer, Bow Wow Baketique in Grosse Pointe Woods occasionally hosts dog ice cream socials, as well as other events like training classes. Another way to cool off is going for a swim, and Sit, Stay, Swim allows you that opportunity with their indoor dog pools and specialized pup fitness center. This is great for overweight or older animals who need to stay in shape.
