Get Rid of Brassiness with Purple Shampoo

If you’re a blonde our add blonde highlights to your hair, you know keeping the brassy blonde color away can be difficult. Brassy, orange and yellow tones are definitely out. Baby blonde and ash tones are definitely in! Brass happens after color treated hair is exposed to the environment. The sun, unfiltered shower water, swimming pools and the wrong hair products can all contribute to warmer brassy tones in your blonde hair.

It’s a common fact that purple and yellow are opposite colors on the color spectrum. A good deep purple shampoo is helpful when you want to neutralize the brassiness. Don’t call your hairstylist and pay for another color service, try a good purple shampoo first to see if you can neutralize that unwanted color before you spend hundreds more at the salon.  Here are my five favorite purple shampoos that work.  I’ve been blonde my whole life (minus 7-8 years total) and I’ve tried them all. Here are my best working favorite purple shampoos:

There you have it!  My five favorite purple shampoos that work like a charm! Prevent blonde or bleached hair from having unwanted brassy/orange/yellow tones by neutralizing with purple hair care from any of the five shampoos listed above. Many of these brands have conditioners to go with them but try the shampoo first to see if you like it before you invest in both products.  Another good piece of advice I must share… Don’t let these shampoos sit on the ends of your hair for very long. If your hair is highly processed, the ends could hold on to the purple hue and your hair will stay purple. If this happens though, don’t fret. You can wash your hair again with regular shampoo and the purple will wash out.

Do you have a favorite purple shampoo that didn’t make the list? Please share your go-to product with us in the comments below. I’d love to learn what works for you!
