The Historic Birmingham 8, Powered By Emagine, Transforms Into A Haunted House/Theatre Walk-Thru Experience
Emagine Entertainment, Inc., an innovator in luxury theatres, has partnered with Bluewater, a leading live event production company, to create an industry-first, live Haunted Theatre experience, called “Ghosts on the Balcony”. The historic movie theatre will be completely transformed into a haunted house experience featuring both family-friendly and a creepy haunted experience for all ages.
The entire building, along with every theatre auditorium will have a different scary theme to scream through. Movies will not be shown for the entire month of October, but that’s okay because the haunted attraction is a 1 hour walk-through experience you’ll definitely tell your friends about. “Ghosts on the Balcony” will run October 1-31, exclusively at The Birmingham 8 Powered by Emagine, located at 211 S Old Woodward Ave., Birmingham, MI 48009.
Why the Birmingham 8? The Birmingham 8, powered by Emagine, carries long time rumors of being seriously haunted. Constructed in 1927 as a playhouse prior to its remodel as a movie theatre in the 1980s. Guests have reported encounters with apparitions, hearing sounds of disembodied voices and footsteps, as well as experiencing other unexplained paranormal activity like lights flickering, doors opening and closing by themselves, and objects being moved by an unseen entity. Employees working at the old theatre late at night additionally report feeling a strange presence and experiencing unexplained feelings of paranoia and fear in certain areas of the building. The history of this historic building creates the perfect setting for this new experience.
As mentioned earlier, the theatre will not be showing movies during the month of October and will be completely transformed back to Victorian era times for this immersive haunted theatre attraction. The bloodcurdling haunt is designed by Bluewater’s professional set designers and will transform 11 different chilling areas of the theatre, including many spaces in this old historic building never seen by the public. Each area of the haunt will be uniquely themed and staffed by professional actors trained in the art of terror.
Guests will also have the ability to purchase food and beverages from the concession stand along with adult (21+) beverages at various stops throughout the experience.

Tickets for the family friendly haunted house/theatre experience are $20 per person. The adult haunted house/theatre experience are $30. Tickets are timed in 15-minute entry time increments and can be purchased directly on the Emagine website now at www.emagine-entertainment.com.
All of the haunted fun begins October 1st and will run through October 31, 2022. See below for scheduling details:
- Family Friendly Haunted Experience (ages 5-12): Friday-Sunday, 2:00pm-5:00pm, Approximately 30-minute experience.
- Bloodcurdling Adult Haunted Experience (ages 13 and over): Sunday-Thursday, 7:00pm-10:00pm, Friday-Saturday, 7:00pm-1:00am. Approximately 60-minute experience
