Let’s Eat Pizza Shall We?
With nine metro Detroit locations, Buddy’s Pizza is a local favorite for many Michiganders. There is a Buddy’s just 5 minutes from my house, which makes their new Half-Baked Pizza a convenient dinner option for hectic days of child taxiing. I love their square pizza, and it’s a treat that my family doesn’t often get. As a family with small children, we don’t go out to eat much. The half-baked pizza at Buddy’s is a great alternative to going out, with all of the convenience that I need. I picked up my half-baked pizza on my way home and stuck it in the fridge. Buddy’s recommends you cook or freeze their half-baked pizzas within 24 hours of purchase. We cooked our pizza later that night. The directions are really simple, and come right on the box. Set your oven to 375 ̊-400 ̊, cook for 5-15 minutes (we cooked ours for 15 minutes at 375̊ ) and that’s it! If you want to wait to cook your pizza another day, just wrap in plastic wrap and freeze. Pop it out another day when you want something quick.
Just like fully-cooked pizzas, the half-baked pizzas are made to order. You have the option to order any of the signature Buddy’s Pizzas, including the Made in Michigan Great Lakes pizzas. Choices include original, gluten free and multi-grain crusts, original and tomato basil sauces, and a variety of cheeses including Wisconsin brick cheese, Buddy’s own the Motor City Cheese blend and a casein-free vegan cheese. We tried “the Detroiter” (cheese, pepperoni on top, tomato basil sauce, topped with shaved parmesan cheese and Buddy’s spice blend).
How does it taste? Our half-baked “Detroiter” was delicious. Since you’re not re-heating but simply finishing the cooking process it doesn’t lose any flavor or texture. We had the 8 square size, which was a perfect amount for two adults and two kids when served with salad. We had a couple pieces left over which were eaten up the next day. A perfect dinner ready in 15 minutes with no hassle, yay! We will definitely be doing this again.
Half-baked pizzas can be ordered at any of Buddy’s Pizza’s seven sit-down locations including Auburn Hills, Dearborn, Detroit, Farmington Hills, Grosse Pointe, Livonia and Warren, or two carryout sites in Bloomfield Hills and Royal Oak. The Story of Buddy’s (In Their Words):
Established in 1936 on the corner of Conant and Six Mile Roads as a neighborhood tavern, it was not until 1946 that Buddy’s first introduced our famous square pizza — the first of its kind — to Detroit. It was love at first bite.
More than 66 years, and numerous awards later, Buddy’s continues to serve Detroit’s original square pizza, made from scratch soups, and our celebrated Antipasto salad. Over time we have added a variety items to our menu including gluten-free pizza, multi-grain crust, pastas, burgers, sandwiches and more – each prepared just as they would have been in 1946 — with the freshest ingredients and an acute attention to detail.
One of the secrets to Buddy’s success has always been our dedicated, hard working staff. Many of whom started off at Buddy’s original location now take pride in keeping Buddy’s traditions alive at the nine metro Detroit locations.
Buddy’s is proud to give back to the community through our participation in a number of charitable causes as well as our “Got Pizza, Give Dough,” “Sometimes You Need Some Buddy’s,” “Celebrity Signature Pizza”, “Dining With The Stars,” and “Motor City Pizza Collection” campaigns.
