We are a family of snackers. My husband could make an entire meal out of appetizers and I like to graze throughout the day. We are becoming more conscious of what we eat these days and trying to keep our grocery budget under control. As a result, we have becoming up with our own “snackables.” On of our new favorites are mini-tacos made with Salsa Sensations salsa, Tostitos Scoops, ground beef, cheese, lettuce and the optional sour cream.
After I saw Salsa Sensations was running a after-school snack contest, I decided to enter our mini-taco recipes. The entry was easy and fun, plus, I could win a $1,000 Walmart card, and who wouldn’t want that?
First, I set out in search of Salsa Sensations. I made my list, loaded up the kiddos and headed to the nearest Walmart. I first perused the Hispanic food aisle. I couldn’t find it. Hmm. I headed over to the deli area because I knew there were some refrigerated salsa. No luck. I finally tracked down someone stocking produce and asked. He said it was not a Walmart Supercenter so odds weren’t in my favor.
So we checked out with everything else we had and made the trip over to another Walmart, which was only slightly out of our way. The deli section is right by the door so I figured I’d stop in, grab it and get out. No such luck. I couldn’t find it. This time, there wasn’t anyone available to ask and the store was mighty busy. I bundled the kids back up and headed home.
A quick search of the Salsa Sensations website indicated I was doing something wrong. The Walmart Supercenter I visited should have had it, but not where I was looking. It was in the dairy case near the milk, eggs and refrigerated tortillas.

On sale though, so that was a nice surprise.
I have to admit, this was the first time I’ve had Salsa Sensations (obviously since I couldn’t find it), but it was so good. I usually buy this incredibly overpriced fresh salsa from my local fruit market, but I’m not doing that anymore. This stuff was better and cheaper. I’ve found my new salsa.
Anyway, I browsed over to the Salsa Sensations What’s Your Craving Contest website to see what I had to do to enter my mini-tacos in the contest.
First, I wrote up my recipe, which is:
1 lbs ground beef
1 bag Tostitos Scoops
2 cups shredder cheese (of your liking)
2 cups shredded lettuce
Sour cream optional
1 container Salsa Sensations Salsa
Preheat oven to 350. While oven is preheating, brown the ground beef. Drain. Place number of desired Tostitos Scoops on to cookie sheet. Scoop browned ground beef into individual Tostitos Scoops. Add a spoonful of Salsa Sensations Salsa on top of the ground beef. Top with a sprinkling of cheese. Place cookie sheet in the over and cook until the cheese is melted and the salsa is a little warm, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from oven. Top with lettuce and serve.
As I was making my mini-tacos, I documented the process with a video and some pictures. I submitted the recipe to via the Salsa Sensations What’s Your Craving contest form, uploaded the video to the Salsa Sensations Facebook Fan page and now I’m waiting to see if I’ll take home the $1,000 Walmart gift card.
Oh, do you want to see my video?
Are you going to enter? If so, post a link to your video so I can try out your recipe too.
