Roaring 20’s that is! Meadow Brook Hall hosted a Speakeasy on Friday, March 19th and it was a huge success! I took a stroll back in time and actually felt as though I was apart of a cast & crew during my 3 hour stay in the mansion. My expectations were high but to my surprise, the Meadow Brook Hall crew exceeded those expectations within minutes!
From the moment I arrived it was like being in a movie. At the side entrance of the mansion, I was greeted by a mysterious man dressed in black. He asked me, “who sent you?”, and I whispered the secret password to get in. Once inside, I gave my name and was checked off a list. I made my way down a narrow staircase with dim lighting. I was half way down the stairs before I could hear the swanky tunes of the live band. The excitement was growing as I took my last step off the stairs and around a corner. I’m in! And was about to experience one of the best parties I have ever attended!
Tickets for this event were $65.00 and it was a steal if you ask me! There was an open bar with 20’s signature style drinks, mouth watering food around every corner, Champagne, a carvery station and a pound cake bar with cinnamon ice-cream begging for a drizzle of hot fudge & strawberry sauce to sweeten up your evening. The professional dancers enchanted everyone by performing popular dance moves from the era and then crowded the dance floor with guests eager to participate in a few dance lessons.
Everyone was dressed in costume from the 20’s. I was surrounded by feathers, fishnet stockings, strands of pearls and sharply dressed fellas with a lovely lady or two on their arms. The ambience was priceless and the professional staff at Meadow Brook Hall were more than accommodating by treating everyone like royalty. Being in a smokeless environment was also a bonus! I can’t remember the last time I had a perfect evening of excellent food, drinks and entertainment without going home reeking of smoke!
Meadow Brook Hall hosts monthly events and is open to the public all year round. Jump on any opportunity to allow their professional staff to impress you and you’ll soon discover why I’m a fan of America’s Castle in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
