This weekend is the annual Millington Old Fashioned Summer Festival in town. If you like small town events, this is one you won’t want to miss. It starts Wednesday, August 12th with a Euchre tournament at the Red Garter Saloon at 5:30PM. Thursday the 13th, the Community Carnival for the kids begins at 10:00AM and runs through 9:00PM in the Fire Department parking lot. Kiddy rides are only $0.25 ~ Don’t miss the Frog Jumping Contest at 11:00AM in the library parking lot (but remember to bring your own frog!!). Millington Idol Contest is from 4-7:00PM at the Community Center. The Pedal Tractor Pull is at 6:30PM. There’s a concert by Fonix at the Red Garter Saloon from 7:00PM -midnight. If that’s not to your liking, you can take in a Christian concert, Christ at Center at the Junior High football field. Chasen, Jonny Diaz and local artists Kelsey Madelyn w/Derek Turscanyi will be performing. Fireworks at 10:00 PM, always one of our favorite things to see!
Millington Old Fashioned Summer Festival
Friday includes the Old-Fashioned Festival Parade. You wouldn’t believe a town with just over 1,100 people could have such a big parade, but they do! After the parade, stick around for the commode race. Saturday there’s a Tractor show from 8:00AM to 1:00PM and a Car show from 8:00AM to 3:00PM. The kid’s parade is at noon, with “Back Seat Driver” at 1:00PM and the Tricycle Race at 2:00 PM. The Tuscola County Sheriff Department will be doing car seat safety checks in the Mayville Bank parking lot from 2-6:00PM. The Millington Idol Finals are from 2-4:00PM.
Other attractions include a petting zoo, souvenir booth, raffle booth and bingo tent. Plus…the food!! We have booths for bratwurst, cotton candy, tacos, nachos, hamburgers, smoothies, pulled pork, turkey drumsticks, roasted corn, lemon shake-ups, ice cream, chicken barbecue, funnel cakes, sno-cones, hot dogs, pizza by the slice, baked goods, fish, fries & onion rings, popcorn, juice pouches and hot pretzels. Our personal annual treat is to hit the Lutheran Church’s fish fry booth on Friday night. But, if you join me there, be patient…it’s a long line. Evidently, everyone else loves the fish fry, too.
